It’s 2012. Back-to-the-Future style hover boards have not yet arrived, but engineers are making progress in that direction. A powerful, easy-to-control electric skateboard debuted on Kickstarter, and in just a day this magical board raised $50k toward a $100k funding goal. TechCrunch reported that “Riding uphill on a Boosted Board feels like you’re cheating gravity… and after riding it a few times all I could think was that this will change how we interact with our cities.” Powered by a quiet 2000 watt electric motor, you can use a wireless remote control to hit a top speed of 20mph on the board. At $1200, these boards are not cheap. Rather, they are a serious new form of eco-friendly transport that could rival bikes, buses, and cars in urban environments. Kickstarter campaign ends Oct. 11th.
